Dear Twilight Hunter,
I’m branching out a little here, and wish I
could call you “Sky Hunter” or “Landscape Seeker” – some of the enclosed photos
are devoid of any twilight. But I want
to give you the day on which the twilight descends, the world it blossoms from
and on and out of. Maybe an exclusive
collection of dusk and dawn photos would give you enough of a contrast to enjoy
the details, but I fear we’re missing something – sort of like a book without
paper, Helen without Troy, or dare I say, photographs without the experience.
And so, here’s Scotland and Ireland. I visited Ireland twice, three and a half
years apart, and actually saw the sunset both times from Dun Laoghaire; but on
the second visit I didn’t have a camera.
I went up to Scotland three times each August between 2009 and 2011, and wish I could better convey the all-pervasive mystique of this land. Somewhere there is a photo of the sunrise
from Arthur’s Seat, but I can’t find it.
If you ever visit Edinburgh, it’s well worth the climb at 3am. The journey and the destination, right?
